Guidance Eighteen - Hospital social work teams

Concerns Raised in Hospital Settings

Where a concern is raised in a hospital setting, the referrer MAY find it easier to make a referral directly to the hospital social work team rather than contacting the referral point.

Hospital Social Work staff must complete the referral documentation in line with the relevant internal procedures for taking a referral (either Nottingham City or Nottinghamshire County Adult Social Care).

Early discussion should take place between the hospital social work team and the relevant team where the person normally resides to agree who will undertake the role of Safeguarding Manager.  This should be done prior to the Safeguarding Strategy Discussion.  Consideration should also be given to the involvement of both community and hospital social work teams regardless of who is undertaking the role of Safeguarding Manager.
